Purple was the hot accent color at the Spring International Furniture Market. For some, purple can be a little overwhelming, especially in large doses, but as an accent, whether in fashion or interior design, it is exciting!

Gorgeous Chloe bag…so purple, so stunning!

Purple has the ability to create the impression of luxury, probably because historically it was the symbol of nobility (think if those royal purple velvet ropes). Currently however when it is paired with white, it’s fun, fresh and crisp. Used with neutrals, like grays and beiges, it brings new life and an edgy sophistication to your colour schemes.

While purple is the hot trend in Canada and the US, across the pond at the Paris design show ‘Maison & Objet’, pink was gathering momentum.

And not just shy blush pinks, but bold hot pinks were showing up too. They were paired with white or contrasted with navy.

On both continents, blue is still leading the charge in fabrics and wallcoverings. As I reported in a previous blog, the shades of blue are varied…navy, saphire, periwinkle, and denim. Maxwell Fabrics presented the designers at Barnard Speziale with a gorgeous bunch of blues from Telefina this week. One of the designers was eyeing them for her own home…shhhhh!
