Like a lot of new homes these days, this main floor has only one Living room space which must perform double duty. Creating a comfortable space for televsion viewing during the week while ‘wowing’ your guests on the weekends was the main goal for these clients. The existing stone fireplace was the natural feature in this space and created a dramatic focal point despite the fact that it didn’t quite represent the homeowners’ style. Initially cluttered with a lot of small scale pieces this room was in need of something much larger and more impactful. Adding large scale contemporary landscapes to either side of the mantel helped to make the space feel more transitional in its aesthetic while softening the hard edges of the fireplace at the same time. Sticking to neutral colours we added interest by layering textures, materials, and sheen levels on both the furniture pieces and accessories.  The asymmetrical tv wall not only adds a more contemporary edge to the space but the use of picture rails encourage the layering of additional artwork distracting you from the otherwise obvious television.
